Queering the Archives / I Matter Kick Off

Craft, Food and Cruising come together for the LGBTQ+ community and allies Friday at Union Station in Ogden. The Queering the Archives/I Matter event created by Weber State University Special Collections Manager Sarah Langsdon and her son Sammy is an invitation for queer people in the Ogden area to be part of local history. The lack of information about the queer community in the Ogden area inspired Langston to start “Queering the Archives” to document stories, photos and memories of people from the LGBTQ+ community. Attendees of Friday’s event can learn more about the project and how to get involved. Other planned activities include the “I Matter” exhibit of photographs, artwork and writings by LGBTQ+ youth in Weber and Davis counties. The Myra Powell Art Gallery at Union Station will feature an exhibit, “Rainbow Letters,” showcasing people’s responses to what it’s like to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community in northern Utah.

Friday, June 24, 4-7 p.m., Ogden Union Station, 2501 Wall Avenue, free, weberqueerarchives.org and imatter.org

Untamed POPs!

Chamber Orchestra Ogden is back with their community favorite “Untamed POPS!” at the Ogden Amphitheater on Saturday. This year, the annual free concert will feature patriotic tunes, music from The Beatles, Gloria Estefan, The Eagles, John Williams, your favorite movies and more. Student musicians from Imagine Music will make special appearances throughout the concert. Attendees can enjoy a covered picnic during the concert with great meals from one of the food trucks. Chairs are also permitted on the grassy hillside inside the amphitheater with beautiful views of the stage and surrounding architecture and the Ogden Mountains. Chamber Orchestra Ogden, founded and conducted by Dr. Michael Palumbo, professor emeritus at Weber State University, is made up of more than 60 professional, semi-professional and amateur Wasatch Front musicians. COO regularly organizes high quality, low cost orchestral concerts in downtown Ogden.

Saturday, June 25, 7:30 p.m., Ogden Amphitheater, 343 East 25th Street, free, chamberorchestraogden.org

Blues, beers and BBQ

A fine line-up of touring bands awaits music and beer lovers every Sunday in July; dogs and kids on leads are welcome at these outdoor concerts, where attendees can bring blankets, chairs and umbrellas to set up on the plush lawn and dancers of all ages enjoy dipping their feet in the bin in front of the stage. Cocktails and local beers are available on the terrace to wash down Earl’s Lodge barbecue-style food.
