UTAH (ABC4) – The Alcoholic Beverage Control Department has released its annual report for fiscal year 2021, with total alcohol sales of $ 517 million. After paying the department’s running costs, the remaining $ 214 million will be returned to the community, said DABC director Tiffany Clason.
“The DABC helps keep taxes low for hard-working Utah families by channeling income toward payment for essential community services that benefit all Utahns,” said Director Clason. “Fiscal 2021 generated $ 184 million in revenue to pay for statewide services such as transportation and infrastructure, health, education, public safety, school lunches for children and prevention of alcohol consumption among minors. The DABC also generated $ 30 million in sales taxes distributed among the local communities where DABC retail stores are located. “
DABC opened three new retail stores in 2021 located in Saratoga Springs, Farmington and Taylorsville. The new stores are the first to include coolers that allow customers to purchase cold drinks at the time of purchase. The DABC is currently looking to open five new stores, which will either replace an existing store or establish a new location.
A portion of the revenue from stores like these will go to programs like Parents Empowered, which provides education and information about the effects of alcohol on underage children. The DABC is a major contributor to the state budget and supports many Utah businesses in the food and beverage industry.

With the continued influx of people settling in Utah, the department is expected to continue to grow and become an increasingly important financial resource for the state.
