Thanks to auto-loan, Jim Bonfiglio overtakes Mike Caruso in fundraising HD 89

Democratic candidate Jim Bonfiglio winner of the latest House District 89 fundraising report, thanks to a $ 15,000 loan to his campaign.

Rep. Mike Caruso still in the lead Bonfiglio is out of contributions. Caruso raised $ 12,000 in the last report covering June 13-26.

Bonfiglio brought in less than $ 400 in outside money, but made a loan of $ 15,000, ahead of Caruso’s overall win for the month.

However, Caruso still leads both in terms of added money and cash. Caruso has raised over $ 200,000 for his re-election and has over $ 122,000 left.

Bonfiglio raised over $ 30,000 through his campaign and added an additional $ 72,500 in loans. Its political committee, Putting voters first, raised an additional $ 3,300. This gives Bonfiglio just under $ 106,000 raised in total and just over $ 23,000 still on hand.

Caruso spent just over $ 6,500 in the last two week period. Most of this amount, $ 5,600, went to Anthony Pedicinithe company Strategic image management for advertising and advisory services.

Bonfiglio spent less than $ 3,000 during the period. The consulting firm Johnson Strategies received $ 1,000 of this amount, while Michelle damone raised nearly $ 1,000 more, all for campaign counseling.

Bonfiglio and Caruso are heading for a rematch in HD 89, as the two candidates are unopposed in their respective primaries.

Their 2018 competition was one of six across the state to head for a mandatory machine recount. After all the votes were cast, Caruso edged out Bonfiglio by just 32 votes out of over 78,000.

HD 89 was one of six districts across the state to no longer vote for Mitt Romney in 2012 to support Hillary Clinton in 2016, according to an analysis by MCI Maps. It gives Democrats hope that they can catch up with that narrow 2018 margin in a year when the presidential contest is on the ballot.

HD 89 travels up the coast of Palm Beach County and spans Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Palm Beach.

Candidates and political committees faced a deadline of Friday July 3 to report any financial activity until June 26.
