On August 7, 2022, at approximately 8:38 a.m., officers from the Missoula Police Department responded to the Albertsons of the North Reservation for the report of an assault with a weapon. The officer spoke with the victim who said he worked at the store. Other staff informed the victim that a passing man had been on the property since 6:00 a.m.
The man was loitering and told the victim he was waiting to charge his phone. The man used the store’s bathroom and then left. The man had a Walmart cart full of products. The victim did not know if the man had any Albertsons merchandise and did not accuse him of shoplifting as he did not witness anything. Lydia Arnold, Police Public Information Officer, explains.
“Kurt Kingsley is being held for assault with a weapon and additional charges after he pulled a knife on a person in the Albertsons’ parking lot,” Arnold said. “The victim had asked Kingsley to leave the store to hang out. Kingsley walked away, but started putting items from a Walmart cart into a child’s Albertsons cart. The victim asked Kingsley not to take the cart off the property.
According to court documents, Kingsley was nervous and repeatedly insulted the victim. The victim asked Kingsley to leave the property. Kingsley again insulted the victim and said, “I’ll see you after work.”
“Kingsley made aggressive and threatening comments and spat in the victim’s face,” Arnold said. “In defense, the victim hit Kingsley. Kingsley grabbed a knife and brandished the knife at the victim while making additional threatening comments. Officers were able to recover the weapon used and reviewed the CCTV. Kingsley was taken into custody. During an incidental search upon arrest, a pipe believed to be used for smoking methamphetamine was located on Kingsley’s person.
Kingsley is currently charged with felony assault with a weapon, assault, criminal possession of drug paraphernalia and theft.
