IsoTruss, Inc. Receives USDA Funding Award for Rural Broadband Project

SPRINGVILLE, Utah–(BUSINESS WIRE)–IsoTruss, Inc., a provider of engineering, design and manufacturing services, today announced that it has received $124,000 in funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In this rural broadband project, the company will use its patented geometry to create a lightweight, space-saving mobile cell site to provide temporary network coverage, which can be assembled and disassembled quickly, without additional equipment. The planned IsoTruss® mobile cell site will save space, weigh less and last longer than current options.

Nathan D. Rich, CEO of IsoTruss, Inc., said, “We are committed to helping bridge the digital divide in network coverage for nearly a quarter of rural Americans who lack access to broadband. Extending network coverage to these will improve the economies and quality of life of rural communities, while providing access to important services such as telehealth, distance learning, e-commerce and remote work.

IsoTruss Inc. designs and manufactures patented composite truss structures that reduce weight 12 times over steel structures, without compromising strength. These structures have been successfully applied to rural telecommunications towers due to their reduced weight and significantly lower installation and maintenance costs. One of the advantages of the mobile cell site is that it should be able to be transported with a light truck, allowing better access to rural and remote locations and saving fuel, which reduces emissions. This is the second USDA Enterprise Funding Fellowship.

IsoTruss® lattice cellular towers, made with corrosion-resistant composites and using patented geometry, provide flexibility and modularity in structural design as well as superior wind resistance. IsoTruss® towers are designed and tested to last at least 5 times longer than steel towers, which need to be replaced more often due to corrosion and other environmental factors. As a result, total cost of ownership (TCO) is lower and environmentally, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 70% or more over the lifetime of the tower.

Cromwell Wong, COO, IsoTruss, Inc. said, “Lightweight and mobile cell sites can also provide fast network access during natural disasters when existing networks are damaged. The space and weight saving of the IsoTruss® will allow these mobile cell sites to be better transported and assembled in disaster areas. Additionally, our durable lattice tower infrastructure reduces CO2 emissions based on weight, materials and design, making our cellular towers highly competitive against steel towers. »

Each IsoTruss® cell tower is designed and manufactured to meet rigorous company design and production standards, various local, state and federal regulations, and Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA®) standards and from the AASHTO.

Since 2019, IsoTruss, Inc. has received multiple funding awards totaling nearly $1 million combined from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), to support rural broadband expansion, and the Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), for the research and development of a reinforced concrete foundation for telecommunication towers to increase resilience to natural disasters.

With a global portfolio of over thirty patented and patent-pending structural and composite material designs that protect not only configurations but also manufacturing processes, IsoTruss, Inc. is committed to building the sustainable infrastructure of the future through innovative engineering solutions. , design, manufacture and construction.

IsoTruss, Inc. is an active member of the Institute of Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IAMCI), a US manufacturing institute established by the US Department of Energy. IACMI’s mission is to accelerate advanced composite design, manufacturing, engineering innovation, and workforce solutions to enable a cleaner, more sustainable, safer, and more competitive American economy.
