Florida State Falls To Wake Forest Men’s Basketball 76-54


WINSTON-SALEM, NC (seminoles.com) – Freshman Matthew Cleveland led Florida State with 13 points as the Seminoles fell to Wake Forest, 76-54, at Lawrence Joel Coliseum . Sophomore Caleb Mills scored in double digits with 10 points, while Malik Osborne led the Seminoles with eight rebounds.

Jake LaRavia scored 22 points and Alondes Wiliams added 20 as Wake Forest pulled away in the first half and maintained their lead throughout the second half. KHadim Sy added 16 points and 10 rebounds, a season high, for the Demon Deacons.

Florida State started the game with a six-point lead but couldn’t recover after a 17-0 first-half run by the Demon Deacons.

Cleveland, the ACC’s freshman of the week, shot three on the field and seven on the line. He scored in double digits in six of his first 11 games of his career and had his first career double-double against NC State on Saturday with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The rookie also contributed to three career-high interceptions.

The Seminoles got off to a slow start, scoring just 22 points and shooting 0.226 from the field in the first half.

Redshirt sophomore Caleb Mills scored in double digits with 10 points. He was a perfect six of six from the free throw line.

The Seminoles shot 20 of 25 (0.800%) from the line.

Contributing just one steal tonight, Mills is ranked as the leader of Florida State and ranked second in the ACC with 23 steals and an average of 1.9 steals per game. In the first 12 games of his career in Florida State, he made more interceptions (23) than in his 35-game career in Houston (21).

Osborne contributed eight rebounds, a team high, and scored six points against Wake Forest. Osborne is the Seminoles’ second-leading scorer averaging 11.9 points per game this season.

Senior redshirt Anthony Polite continued to prove himself defensively with three interceptions. Polite is ranked seventh in the ACC with 22 steals and an average of 1.8 steals per game.

The Seminoles totaled 16 interceptions while the Demon Deacons had just four. Florida State leads the ACC in interceptions with a total of 126 interceptions for 10.5 interceptions per game. The Seminoles are the only team in the ACC to average 10 or more interceptions per game.

Florida State Bank topped Wake Forest Bank by a 29-20 margin.

Florida State will return home for its next game against the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday, January 8. The match will start at 8:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
