Cunningham named to Bowerman’s watchlist for preseason; Grimes receiving votes

NEW ORLEANS, La. –Florida State Hurdler Trey Cunningham has been named to Bowerman’s preseason watchlist while rider Isaac Grimes receives votes for the watchlist. Cunningham makes his eighth appearance on Bowerman’s Watchlist, the largest among active athletes. This is the first time that Grimes has made an appearance or received votes on the roster.

Both athletes will look to become the first Bowerman de Noles semi-finalist since Maurice Mitchell in 2012. Ngoni Makusha is the only Nole to win the award in 2011. Cunningham is only the seventh Nole to make Bowerman’s watchlist. as he joins Mitchell. , Makusha, Andre Ewers (2019), James Harris (2014), Charles Clark (2011) and Kimberly Williams (2010-11). The Winfield, Ala. Native is the first Nole to be on the watch list in three separate seasons (2020-22). Cunningham is currently the school record holder in the 60m hurdles (7.51) and is a four-time ACC champion in that event.

Grimes just wrapped up a phenomenal 2021 season where he placed second in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships and NCAA Outdoor Championships. He holds the school record in the long jump (8.35m) and was named 2021 ACC Indoor Athlete of the Year and 2021 ACC Outdoor Athlete of the Year.

The Christmases will begin their spring indoor season on January 14 and 15 at the Clemson Invite in Clemson, SC
